Following the humiliating defeat in the cup a much improved performance was required against old rivals and title outsiders Greenhills Dynamo. Thats exactly what we got and only a scrambled goal 5 minutes from time stopped the Shaws leaving East Kilbride with all 3 points in the midweek clash at the Murray. The Shaws dominated early proceedings with the game being played mostly in Greenhills half. Then with about 30 minutes gone midfielder Stevie Thomson rose above the rest to head the Shaws into the lead from a Gordon McLaughlin corner. Dynamo came back and almost levelled but an outstretched leg from keeper Stevie Ross prevented a certain goal from the Greenhills player who should really have done better.1-0 half-time. Dynamo went up a gear or two in search of the equaliser after the break but the Shaws were looking dangerous on the break. Firstly, the ref made a bizarre decision by pulling the play back when Barry Scally was clean through on the keeper for a free-kick to us 25 yards out...........whatever happened to the advantage rule. Then Mark Dyer had a glorious chance to put the Shaws two up after a great through ball from Ian Dumbreck but his lob fell wide of the keepers left hand post. Dynamo pressed on but found Shaws keeper Stevie Ross in inspirational form with two excellent saves and one outstanding stop low to his right hand corner. Then 10 minutes from time Greenhills were awarded a soft penalty to say the least and up stepped Dynamo's Mick Donnelly only for Stevie Ross to deny the East Kilbride men yet again and justice was done. It seemed as though we were going to be rewarded for our hard work and take all 3 points however with 5 minutes remaining disaster struck. After defending so well throughout the whole game we just couldn't clear our lines inside the box and when the ball broke the Greenhills player struck the ball through a ruck of players and the ball eneded upin the back of the net. 1-1 and thats how it finished. It felt like a defeat for the Shaws but the performance was encouraging.
